It started as a farming term. A way of explaining that the calf pens were so full, so chaotic, so absolutely rammed that you couldn't get a buttered ferret through. Technical stuff. Over time it became something else entirely: a symbol of keeping your sense of humour when you're knackered, overstocked, under-slept and still turning up because the animals don't care what kind of day you're having. It escaped the yard, cleared passport control and somehow made it to faraway places such as Budapest.
